The Risk We Don’t Take

Some of the risks that shape us most are small enough that no one else even notices them. Speaking up when staying quiet would be easier. Saying yes to something we're not entirely sure we're ready for. Setting a boundary instead of smoothing over discomfort. Trying something different without knowing exactly how it will turn out.

And the impact doesn't stay neatly contained in one part of our lives. A professional risk can change where we live, how we spend our time, the relationships we maintain, or what becomes possible for our families. A personal decision can change what we're willing to tolerate professionally, the opportunities we're able to pursue, or even the direction of a career.

The lines between personal and professional growth are often much less defined than we pretend they are.

Not every risk works out the way we hope. Sometimes an idea fails. A conversation doesn't go as planned. An opportunity turns out differently than expected. We make a decision and later realize we would make it differently with what we know now.

That doesn't automatically make the risk a mistake.
